Default Cherry Knowle Hospital

I have an old photograph showing my aunt and a friend (both nurses at CKH) with 3 injured men. Written on the back of the photograph are the words Postle and Roberts taken in grounds with some of the wounded / 1st Evacuees from Dunkirk.
Does anyone know if CKH took injured servicemen for the duration of WW2 or Dunkirk only?
Ethel

Yes, Ryhope general hospital was built for WW2 but Cherry Knowle Hospital was the Mental Hospital further up the drive from Ryhope General Hospital. It was a large, possibly Victorian style brick built hospital. As far as I am aware it is still there, although I haven't been able to find any reference to it.
Having said all that I have now found a site which shows photographs as well!

I think that the "temporary" hospital for soldiers was built on the land between Cherry Knowle and the old A19 [near the grammar school]. The buildings later were used as Ryhope Hospital and were not connected with Cherry Knowle.
