Smile when we were young

according to todays regulators those of us who were kids in the 40;s &50;sshould not have survived.
our cots were covered with brightly coloured lead paint which we promptly chewed or licked,we had no child proof lids on medicine bottles, and it was fine to play with pans,
when we rode our bikes we had no helmets, just flip flops, and fluorescent clackers on the wheels,
as kids we would ride in cars with no seat belts, riding in the front seat was a treat.
we drank water from the garden hose and not from the bottle ,tasted the same.
we ate dripping sandwiches, and butter pudding and drank fizzy pop with sugar in it,but we were never overwieght because we were outside playing
we shared one drink with four friends from one bottle,no one actully died we would spend hours making go-carts out of scrap and then went to speed down the hill, only to find we forgot the brakes.
we would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back before dark,no one was able to reach us all day and no one minded.
we fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits, they were accidents,we learnt not to do it again.
we had fights, punched each other hard and got black and blue,we learnt to get over it
we walked to our friends house.
the idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of they sided with the law.
this generation has produced some of the best risk takers and problem solvers,we learnt to deal with it all,
also dont forget the hidings we got from the old man with his pit belt or poker or for coming in with the srse out of the only pair of trousers you had, no long leged trousers then
my what happy times how do the young survive now

Default Childhood

Couldn't agree more Denis. Life for children is far too sterile these days & no one ever had allergies or inhalers.

Dont forget 60s it was about same we had dripping bread, sugar butties and fizzy pop.we didnt have seat belts either in a lot of houses there was nearly aways chips on menu or beans (good cheap meals). For tea it was always biscuits and because there was 8 of us if you got home from school last you never got cream ones.As for as trouble we wouldnt dare the cops would give you a clip and you never forgot it.Schools used the strap or canes to punish you now your parents cant even check you.Smoking was a no no as was underage drinking untill you were old enough.Pups had last orders at 10-30 pm now its all night.
