The attached image is extracted from a photo of my grandfather, Thomas Thirlwell, with an unknown colleague. I'd be interested if anyone recognises the colleague. Assuming he was in the same regiment he is a Corporal in the Royal Field Artillery, with the trade of blacksmith (represented by the insignia above the stripes). The photo is dated around 1914.

Hi Ian, that photo's been on the GWF. Sorry I can't ID the lad. If we can help in any way with regards to Seaham lads in the Great War give us a poke.
Regards
John

HI John and Kathleen, do you have any details about Seaham lads in the Ypres area, early 1916, particularly at "The Bluff"? Like my grandfather, who was in the TF from 1908, I imagine a number of the locals would have been in the 3rd Northumbrian Brigade (County Durham) RFA, which, I understand from the GWF, was part of the 50th Division. The Division was involved in the battle of The Bluff in February 1916, and this coincides with the time my grandfather was seriously injured and repatriated to UK.

Hi Ian, we tend to index everything by individual man's name rather than by unit or action. If you send us a list of men you are researching we will pass on anything we have. Perhaps you will be able to fill in some gaps for us too.
E-mail us at; seahamww1@hotmail.com

Ian, thanks for the e-mail and all of that information. It will take us a while to go through it but we will get back to you with anything we have.

I note that this thread has been "moved" from Family History. However it has an expiry date of a couple of week's time, when I presume it reverts back to the original sub forum. Was this expiry intentional or just overlooked? I think it would make sense for the move to be permanent, so unless anyone thinks differently I'll change it later this evening.
