Best Whippet in Show 1891

A cousin sent me this photo of a trophy in his possession. It is inscribed "Won by John Thirlwell Special Prize for Best Whippet in Show 1891". It is thought this was presented to my gr grandfather, John, born 1855, son of Edward Thirlwell & Ann Walker. The family lived in Seaham Harbour.
Any information about the background to this show & the trophy gratefully received.

Hello ian, thanks for transfering accross..the guys that do all the investigations are slowly but surely coming here..hopefully we can have a good system..
The old thing we were using was very poor unlike this one we were very limited in what we had to offer our visitors..
